Liberate the nation of the king Taksin the Great
Part: Follow the trace of Phraya Klang

Kittipong Srinantarak

The king Taksin the Great is a son of Chinese named Mr. Tae Haihong Saetea and Mrs. Nokaieng whom is assumed to be the court subordinate and a daughter of aristocratic court subordinate (after establishment of King Naresuan the Great, his son to hold the position of Somdet Krom Phra Phitak Thephamat or Somdet Phra Panpee Luang) title as Phra Pitak Thephamat or Phraphapee Luang) Mr. Haihong has depended on Chao Phraya Chakri Samuhanayok, according to the royal records written that his father has received the rank of nobility as Khunpat, positioned in tax keeper. Chao Phraya Chakri Samuhanayok has asked for the girl to marry according to Thai tradition as the tax attached her under his supervising at first.
King Taksin the Great was born on Sunday, waxing moon 15, month 5th, the year of tiger of 1096. It was 17 April 2277 B.C. at 11 am. (some source said that it was 7 April 2277) in the reign of King Borommakote as following fortune
There is a story that at night of 14th lunar, 5th month, the year of Tiger, Mrs. Nokaieng dreamed that the ascetic gave her a crystal which is very bright, she received with delight. On 15th lunar moon, 5th month, the date of 17 April 2277 at 11.00 or 12.10 hours, Mrs. Nokaieng pain birth and gave a birth to male who has a square appearance. While he was born, there was miraculous event occurred. The sky did not appear to have a rain before but thunderbolt strike (lighting) into the room which the king was born. However, nobody was injured. Khunpat was very pleased. He consoled his son. On Monday, everything was normal but the frightening events occurred again. There was a large boa curled itself up rounded the baby. This image of this event was now painted at the wall of church in Wat Pichaisongkram. When the python has gone, Khunpipat was afraid that it was the bad omen because Khunpipat believed in fate so he decided not to raise his son but this event reputation(news) has been rumored to Chao Phraya Jakkri Srisamuhanayok, so he come for visiting. When he has first saw the baby, he hit of the baby and he asked for the baby who has just born for 3 days to rise as his adopted child. Khunpipat was as well willing to give the child to him. After that, Chao Phraya Jakkri has raise the baby for a moment, he become progress in his civil servant career path and personal life. Therefore, he give a name to a baby that Sin (Some source say that ... it was believed that being a charisma baby made him be raise by the prestige person and also said that his majesty was the son of the king but gave to Khunpipat and Mrs. Nokaieng to look after him as their adopted child)
When the baby was growing up, Chao Phraya Jakkri Samuhanayok who really loved the son of Khunpipat and Mrs. Nokaieng, saw his characteristic of intelligent, wisdom and brave, he took Sin to be the follower of Master Thongdee at wat Kosawas (Wat Klang or Wat Cherng Tah in the present where has the image of Master Thongdee in the pavilion). Some sources which say that Wat Kosa or Wat Klang or Wat Phraya Klang is recently Wat Samanakote may be incorrect because the royal annal did not say that Wat Samanakote was Wat Kosawas although there was the statue of the king Taksin there. In contrast, his majesty has been ordained here. Food offering to the monk did not meet with Buddhist monk Thongduang because the temple was located in different sites (composer).
When the boy Sin was a student in the temple, he could read Thai, Khmer, Pali and Tripitaka. Moreover, he has studied other languages with native speakers such as teachers from China, Vietnam and Arab and finally he could speak fluently those three languages. Also, he become the appreciate student of professor Thongdee. One day, the boy Sin wanted to get rich, so he volunteered to be the host of gambling game in the temple. Professor Thongdee called for him but no respond and professor Thongdee let one temple boy to call him to come to meet. Occasionally, a monk found place for gambling game behind monastery where the followers were playing and host by the boy Sin. Professor Thongdee knew the story and then punished all boys by flogging. For the boy Sin as the host in gambling game, he was taken to bind with the log of last stair at the waterside, hoping to ashram him. When the time of flood tide arrived, the boy Sin was still hanged with the log of stairs in the water. At 9 pm, the monks finished praying in the evening. While the monk Thongdee went out from the church and recalled that the boy Sin was still hanged in the water, they got hurry to see and searched for him. They found the log of stair hanged with the body of the boy sin at opposite side. The monk leader Thongdee considered that stair at waterside was very strong and hard to pull it up by many people. However, it amazingly floated itself on the surface and it was the fortune of the boy Sin that was not yet dead. The boy Sin was taken into the church and all monks returned as well and then prayed for console the boy Sin. After that, the leader of monk Thongdee told the story to Chao Phraya Jakkri and Chao Phraya Jakkri felt that the boy was not the ordinary young boy because there were the duplicated miraculous events occurred to him for three times.
When he was 13 years old, Chao Phraya Jakkri Samuhanayok has made the traditional hair cutting ceremony as a son of local officials. The villagers who attended the sacred ceremony have seen the miraculous event occurred again. There was a large group of bees hold at Benja pouring water for 7 days and separated after finishing ceremony. The boy sin has been invited to ordain at Wat Sam Wihan (Recently far away from Wat Cherng Tah 2 km. passes Wat Na Phra Men, across Bangkhuad bridge entering the temple. Recently, Phra Kru Wiboon Ajarn Piphat Por Tor 4 whose hometown is Udonthani, is an abbot) to study more and here, the novice Sin had two friends who were novice named the novice Thongduang (The King Rama I) and the novice Boonma, the younger brother of the King Rama I who has ordained before them. After studied the doctrine and Thai language, her leaved the Buddhists monkhood Later, Chao Phraya Jakkri has brought the boy into the present Union served as a royal page in the land of the king Borommakote in the Grand palace. For the novice Thongduang and Boonma, they have been the royal page as well but they were at the front palace.
When the boy Sin was the royal page in the Grand palace, he still continued studying poem, law and military. He learned the textbook of Pichai war and practiced all kinds of weapons such as sward, club, lance and bow and learned to fight on the ground, the back of elephant and horse skillfully. When he was a young and reach age of ordination, Chao Phraya Jakkri brought him to respectfully leave the king Borommakot for ordination at Wat Kosawas with the teacher monk Thongdee for 3 years. During the monkhood, he has learned Thai, Khmer, Pali and Tripitaka more and he can speak and write fluently. This is particularly useful in later time.
For Mr. Thongduang served as a servant in the front palace, has taken a leave for ordination at Wat Maha Thalai closed to Wat Phamai and Wat Phrayatkaram (recently become provincial stadium next to gymnasium. It is the ruin temple remained the wall of church only)
According to the books or textbooks and scholars said that the monk Sin and monk Thongduang of Wat Maha Thalai have received food in the Royal palace in the same time. These two temples were very far away from each other. Wat Kosawas was located in the west next to Wat Phra men and Wat Maha Thalai was next to Wat Yai Chai Mongkol. Transportation in that age was by ship or foots. As it has been said that Wat Klang is in the north of Wat Maha Thalai closing to wat Maheyong is incorrect because most composers did not study in the real location but they expect from the map only.
When two monks went for food offering and met each other, so both has made conversation. While talking, there was an elder Chinese with his long braid passed by and then stopped at the front of both monk unrespectly staring two monks and laughed at them before leave. The monks called for asked that why you laugh at me? an elder Chinese who was fortune teller answered that both of you has different characteristic. You are more elegant than other ordinary people and I predicted that:
If any man looks distinguished shall actually be the king and occupy the throne like the king. I predict that man will be both of you and is it funny that both kings are talking to each other here.
Two monks has questioned and responded as following.
We nearly have equal of age, how can we be the king at the same time. It is impossible. Your prediction seems incorrect. The fortune teller predicts that:

           which man is good looking
Foreshow being the king
Properties belong to them
That man is certainly you
I never seen since I was born
Two friends will be the king in the future
That is both of you

The monks replied that............

           We are closely in age
You is fault to say that
We are the king in the same time
It is not impossible

After being the monk for 3 years, the monk Sin has left the Buddhist monkhood when he was 24 years old. The monk Sin left from Wat Kosawas and returned to be a servant as ever. Because he knew all traditions and duties and he was able to act on behalf of his majesty, he was pleased to the king Borommakot. As consequence, he has received the royal grace designating to be royal page who reported all commissions in Royal page and the royal court
In 2301 B.C., the king Borommakote had died and the youngest king reigned for 2 months and then abdicated his throne to his brother who is the king Borommaraja III or the king Prince Suriya or called by villagers that The king Aekkathat.
The king Aekkathat royal to please the royal page Sin who know the law very well to be governor at general order him to try a case in the northern cities. The royal page Sin could complete this mission very well with his diligence and the king please him very much. Therefore, His Majesty please royal to him to be Luang Procurement service Procurement service at the city of Tak acting in a law enforcement official helping Chao Phraya Tak. When Chao Phraya Tak died, Sin was promoted to be Phraya Tak to rule Tak city. That time, he was only 31 years old. There were very few people who will reign very quickly.
Since Luang of Procurement service at the city of Tak reign to rule the city, honor, reputation and worship has flowed in because Phraya Tak had ability to improve his city with carefulness. One day, Phraya Tak and provincial directorates came out to drink an oath of allegiance at Wat Yai (expect to be Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahatyhat at Pitsanulok province in the present) according to tradition, and the temple has arranged the boxing (Boxing) joined in this celebrations as well.
That time, Nai Thongdee or Nai Joy Fan Kaw who was Thai-Chinese who was the citizen of Muan Pichai which is recently, Uttaradit Province, come to stay with the abbot of the temple because he was injured in a fight with a tiger. After the wounds got well, he has volunteer to fight with Kru Haw who was very famous boxer throughout the city of Tak. The result of fighting appeared that Nai Thongdee Fan Kaw can win Kru Haw. Phraya Tak reward him a thousands of gourd and persuade him to go be his bodyguard and then managed to ordain for him. Later, Phraya Tak appointed to be Luang Pichai Asa and married a wide for him, Luang Pichai Arsa had specialized skills in both boxing, fencing sward, and especially two-handed sword and he is also very loyal to Phra Chao Tak, who is difficult to find anyone like him. When King Rama I the Great has ascended the throne. He wanted Phraya Pichai Arsa to serve under the crown, but Phraya Phichai did not want and said that "I do not get the second of two master's servants" which is rare found the loyal person such him. Later on, there was another extremely loyal person like him who is really loyal to the king Rama VI. When the King Rama VI passed away, he was ordained at Wat Thep Sirin Tarawas since 2513. Unlike today, there are many people are traitorous to benefactor, even some political as readers get to know better.
In the beginning of 2307 B.C., the king Mang, the Burma king, started spreading his power and invaded Thailand. He had three troops which the front army leader was Pomayom and Namiew Sihabodi was the royal army leaders. These two troops arrived Chaing Mai and Mung Maha Naratha seiged the south of Thailand including Maliwan city, Kraburi and Ranong city to Chumporn, Chaiya and returned to attack Pratiew city, Kumnerd Noppakun city, Klongwan, Kuiburi, Pranburi and Petchaburi. They come to converge at Ayutthaya kingdom to grate Thailand. The reason that Myanmar beaten Thailand because Thailand was not strong enough to fight the forces of Burma.
The King Aekkathat has been graciously replies Phraya Taksin to serve as a leader of the front army in Ayutthaya. Phraya Piphat Kosathibodi was the leader of royal army moving the troop to protect Phetchaburi. This battle ground, Phraya Taksin has shown ability to strategic planning and show his brave fighting skill and could finally beat the troop of Mung Maha Naratha until he ordered his troop return to Singkhon, Sangkhlaburi in Kanchanaburi province and Tanaosri city in Myanmar. For this war, Phra Chao Tak was admired by the leader of army, Phraya Piphat Kosathibodi. When the king Aekkathat knew the story, his majesty was admired and reward to Phraya Taksin and the army leader.
The Burmese army led by Po Mayung Nguan and Nemiew Sihabodi has attacked Chaing Mai to Nakornsawan and Singburi. For southern army moved to converge to each other at Ayutthaya kingdom. At that time, there was a group of Thai hero who loved his nation. This was included the monk Thammachote Thammarungsri (his former name is Chote Rungsri, born on 14 lunar, 7th month, the year of big snake, Thursday of June 2243 B.C.) Nai Thongmen rode the buffalo fighting with Burmese, Nai Jan Nuadkhiew, Khun sawan, Nai Kwang Muang Singburi, Phun Rueng, Kumnan, Nai Thong Saiyai, villagers, Nai Tan, Nai Cho or Chote, Nai In, nai Muang, Villagers of Sribuathong village, Nai Dok, villagers of Krub village, Nai Thongkeaw and villagers from Phothale village has formed to fight against Burmas military at Ban Bangrachan in the present (Recently Bangrachan district) Singburi province. Burma troop has attacked the camp for 7 times but never succeeded. Until the 8th time, Suki who was the leader of Burmese army volunteered from the leader of Burma, Nemiew Si Habodi, to sieged Bangrachan successfully because Suki has lived and grew up in Thailand. This made him know a lot about Thailand and expertise in this country and knows fighting in the war of Thai people very well. For this reasons, Burmese did not face with Thai for fight but only shoot into Bangrachan with cannon. Many Thai people were injured and died. Khun Sawan moved the villagers to Ayutthaya to request to the monarch the cannon to fight with Burma. However, Phraya Samuhakalahom (who was stupid and dull) informed the king to oppose because he was afraid that Burmese might snatch the cannon to rake into Ayutthaya. (Actually, Phraya Samuhakalahom did not want anyone to be more famous than himself), so King Aekkathat did not give the cannon. This story spread to hit the monk Thammachote, the monk cannot stand with such chaos situation, so he was the leader to cast the cannon for two times. However, the cannon cannot be efficiently used because of it broken for two times. In the morning after last eating, Bangrachan villagers opened the camp to fight with the enemy with brave, not regret even they would die. Suki, the leader was very surprised. For a while, he ordered to fire continuously to the villagers without kindliness. Their body was separated into small piece. However, the remaining villagers still rushed toward among cannons and swords with brave. They utilized knife, sword, axe, sickle and logs (also catapult) for fight and stab Burmese military. They fought until they died and fell on the ground flooding with blood throughout the ground. They died as they were hero of Bangrachan, Sigha city, who try to protect Thailand. The readers can learn from the textbook The War of Bang Rachan and you will see the statue of Khun Suk standing with weapon at Bang Rachan Monument in Wat Pho Kao Ton which comes from the imaging of Fine Arts Department.
In 2308 B.C., Burmese armies moved closing to Ayutthaya, Phraya Taksin has been ordered to protect the capital city. When the governor of Kumpheangpet died, Phraya Watchiraprakarn has been designated to rule Kumpheangpet city instead but he did not go because of the campaigns against Burma in Ayutthaya.
When beyond to the year of 2309 B.C., it was nearly raining season, the south Burmese army moved closing to Ayutthaya. Mung Mahanathara, the leader of army of Burmese become sick and finally died. Nemiew Sihabodi formed Burmese militaries under his power and designated himself to be the big leader of army. He ordered siege the capital city to block Thai people from finding food. The king Aekkathat had the royal command to Phra Chao Taksin to control the army to beat Burmese camps at Wat Prodsat outside the city which is now the way to Bang pra in. the road is behind Wat Phra Kru Borihannawakit (Lor) as an abbot. Phraya Taksin could broken Burmese army and signaled to the troop inside the capital to join for attack other Burmese armies. However, Phraya Samuhakalahom did not move the troop to support protecting the capital because it might loosen militaries life without any benefits return. When Phraya Taksin could siege the power, he must be able to protect the camp (a large number of this kind of persons envy subordinates existed in the present). When there was no troop to support, Nemiew Si Habodi, the leader of Burmese army commanded other troops of him to siege Phraya Taksins army. As a result, Phraya Taksin must retreats the troop to the city and each person who fight with enemy was badly bruised when return to the city. Phraya Samuhakalahom ordered to close the door of the city to defame Phraya Taksin, similar to the story of Samkok in the part of close the city door to block Laope until he was trapped at the cliff and the horse jump into water to help Laopee. Although Phraya Taksin signaled for open the door, no respond from inside to open the door. Phraya Taksin and his militaries must stay on the ground although they were injured from the war and hungry. Imagine, if we were in the real situation, we must not be able to stand with behavior of cruel Phraya Samuhakalahom and the ruin of Ayutthaya kingdom because of Phraya Samuhakalahom. Phraya Taksin and his militaries stayed on the ground until the morning and were blamed that you can siege the camp already, why you come back like this? This disappointed Phraya Taksin and tired with the speech and behavior of Phraya Samuhakalahom very much
Later on November in 2309, Phraya Taksin has received the kings command to be the leader of navy to obstruct Burmese armies at Wat Yai Chai Mongkol or called Wat Phraya Thai in the past and Phraya Petburi was the front line. When Burmese navy led its troop by Pasak River and passed Klong Khaomao through Wat Hantra, Thanu sub district, to Wat Krasang, Wat Klong Pho and pierce to the backyard of the author and passed the backside of Wat Yai Chai Mongkol (the river flow through Wat Koh Keaw beside Woraburi hotel into Pasak and Chao Phraya River. The Burmese army which cut across the field was larger and Phraya Taksin thought that it was too difficult to defeat the war, so he commanded to retreat the troop to Wat Sangkhawas where was located in the northeast of Wat Phra Nan Cherng (far from the railroad for 300 m.). Before reaching the railroad to Wat Phra Nan Cherng, there was a ruin temple which had the old church contains the Buddha image with the turn the head to the east. The monk Koi, the former abbot of Wat Phra Nan Cherng and villagers has donated the piece to assemble and reform the Buddha image. Recently, Khun Songwut Keeratijinda has rent this area for made efficient economy and build the road to the temple (it should be the responsibility of Fine Arts Department and Buddhism agency) from the village of Thungthong for about 2 km. this is a concrete from Ban Krod to Bang pra-in. ther are about 20 houses around the temple and the area of historic site is about 2 Rai and the temple area is about 40 Rai. It is under the administration of local organization of Koh Rien district. It can be the tourist attraction as well. Before reach Wat Sungkhawas, across the wood bridge of Wat Sakea, it is Wat Kumpheang and villagers built their house around the temple. Some area is Wat Khom where become the cemetery of Wat Phra Nan Cherng in the present. Moreover, there is Wat Ro and Wat Kok which was absorbed to Wat Phranan Cherng. Phraya Taksin stopped Phraya Petchburi from fighting because he wanted to try to silently attack which it might get better result. However, Phraya Petchburi did not believe, so he ordered his forces to face with Burmese army immediately. Finally, the forces was beaten with the bullet fell on the ship center of Phraya Petchburi, Phraya Petchburi died on the battle field beside Wat Sungkhawas. Phraya Taksin was accused by Phraya Samuhakalahom in the case of abandon the friend and also binded as well. Moreover, Phraya Taksin was commanded to stay in the city to protect the front line camp at Wat Koh keaw whi is rerently Woraburi hotel. This made Phraya Taksin felt very hurt and sorry
Later before losing the kingdom of Ayutthaya 3 months, there had announcement to canon military that (it might be the thought of Phraya Samuhakalahom) whoever want to fire the canon, must be allowed from Sala Look Phor Khun and there was a story that Lady Pheng and Lady Man, the kings concubine, was fearful (this was the reason why Ayutthaya was beaten in second time). They were afraid of the sound of canon and some higher nobleman whom was assumed to be Phraya Samuhakalahom that did not like its sound because it annoyed him (how was he designated to be nobleman)
Burmese army crossed the barriers from the east where Phraya Taksin was on the duty at Wat Koh Keaw (Now presence the statue of him on tratedron hall which was casted on 4 September 2551). Wat Koh Keaw is opposite Wat Suwandaram.
The Burmese are crossing the barrier from the east bank of the Chao Phraya Taksin treatment at Wat Koh Kaew (now enshrined in the hall with a statue of him, her fortifications. The Statue of Lo on September 4, 2551) measured the Island. Gold star opposite the Ram temple
For this reason, Phraya Wachiraprakarn has moved the troops to Wat Pichi Songkram where recently situated Krung Sri River Hotel and far away from railway station about 200 meters. According to analysis, Prince Wachiraprakarn decided to gather his royal military and Chinese military who had the same objectives about 500 persons, consisting of 5 major militaries, Phra Pichai Arsa (his lover military), Phra Chaing Ngern, Phrapromsena, Muen Ratchasaneha and Khun Apaipakdee (Chinese Volunteers). On Saturday the 4th lunar second month, 1128 which matched on January 3, 2309 B.C, The moved the troop from Pichai Songkram camp on the sunset to breakout the Burmese army which tightly surrounded to the southeast. Thai army was drive to fight for 4 times and catches up at Ban Pho Saohan (murder). Next day in the morning of January 4, Phraya Wachiraprakarn led his army to the camp at Ban Prannok which current is Wat Prannok, Uthai District. Phraya Wachiraprakarn forced to attack until Burmese army has been defeated. In afternoon, Burmese took their army, consisting of 200 militaries, 30 horses, and walked up to fight. Phraya Wachiraprakarn led the army with only 5 houses fought with Burmese army with 30 horses until defeated. This was the great heroism of the great and should be admired for such situation, especially this events was regarded as the Veterans day which is matched with January 4, of each year.
When finished this war, villagers who fled from Burma were very pleased to know that Phraya Wachiraprakarn and his 5 musketries rode their horse defeated the Burmese army. The leaders of villagers persuaded their villagers to join and made the journey from Ban Prannok to Nakornnayok. Later, when Khun Chumnan Paisan and the leader of elephant knew this event, he brought food supplies and horses and elephants to support the army. Then, they moved toward to Ban Narerng passed Nakorn Nayok and toward to Dan Kob and accrossed Prachinburi river to locate the camp near Dong Si Maha Phot (Now become Si Maha Pho district) on the west. When the leader of Burmese army located his army at the southern of Chao Lo estuary know the story, they separated to follow by land and sea. Unfortunately, they were ambushed by Phraya Wachiraprakarn army and finally beaten. When Phraya Wachiraprakarn becomes famous thoroughly the world, many people come to join and Phraya Wachiraprakarn persuaded Chinese to be loyal volunteer with Khun Aphaipakdee who was the chief of Chinese volunteers. They used the Chinese weapons such as sword, lances and other weapons for fighting. At Prachinburi, Phraya Wachiraprakarn has subdued the thief and tried to reform himself. Then, Phraya Wachiraprakarn moved his troops to Chachoengsao and Ban Panthing (Phan Thong district in the present) Ban Bang Pla Soi (Bang Pla Soi subdistrict, Chon Buri province) and Ban Na Klue and reached Bang Lamung where is currently Bang Lamung district without a break. Finally, they reached Rayong on 12 lunar months, second month, and the year of the dog.
When arrived Rayong, Phraya Rayong (Boon) saw the army of Phraya Watchiraprakarn cannot conquer, so, he led his troop to wait on the way. At night, Phraya Watchiraprakarn encamped at Wat Lum outside Rayong city. Khun Ram Mueanchong and Phraya Rayong planned to attack the camp but Phraya Watchiraprakarn knew that, so he betrayed and can seize the city of Rayong on the period of waning moon, 2nd month, the year of dog, January 2309. Phraya Taksin or Phraya Watchiraprakarn was called Phra Chao Tak from that time
